(Alan Griffiths, 3 May 2022) Johann Adam Gabler (1833-1888), with his wife and descendants, was one of the most significant families in taking and marketing photographs of Switzerland for the tourist souvenir market. After the death of Johann Adam Gabler his wife Rosina (?-1921) and son Arthur Gabler took over the business. By 1895 they were using the names Photographie Gabler and R. & A. Gabler. They published their own stereoviews and new editions of those of Johann Adam Gabler. As the market for postcards expanded Gabler-Verlag published views of glaciers. In 1905 the partner of R. & A. Gabler ended and Rosina continued on her own as Photographie R. Gabler or Ed. R Gabler. Georg Gabler (18841930), the son of Johann Adam and Rosina Gabler, was also a photographer. Other children, Bertha Gabler (18831939) and Ida Gabler (18861961), continued the business over the years with limited success.
*"Photographe". 2000+ views; "Vues de la Suisse, Savoie et d'Italie", fine scenic coverage on SCMs & RMs; sometimes used blindstamp. Later as R. Gabler, including higher #s.
