Stereographs project Business locations New York City, NY, US [0-2] Issued at least 11 sets of 15 cards of comic or mildly pornographic situations for use
in their Mutoscope machines (coin-operated
arcade viewers); each has set & view sequence #s
scratched in neg., such as 68-2. Sets known
include "Hold My Yarn", "How'd you like to be
the Iceman?", "The Cook Walks In", "A Hot Summer
Night in Manhattan", all on gray curved mts.
Photog. unknown; in most cases, views bear only
CR date scratched in neg. of 04 or 05, but one
set bears near-illegible imprint scratched in
neg. of R.W.D. CR 07 (R.W. Daly, NYC
photographer). Given the similarity in style,
Daly likely produced all the known series. Some
cards were in use however as late as 24, bearing
that date from MA censor (A.R. Foote,
Commissioner, Dept. of Public Safety) for use on
Sunday. Foote was a zealot who under the
directions of the Catholic authorities
restricted "immoral" images and writings. He wanted to ban these altogether, but had to
settle for Sunday ban. Expert, Patrick
