Photograph of a Zulu man from the Natal region. He is standing holding a spear with both hands, his left elbow resting on the wooden fence behind him. He is wearing a fur loincloth and has feathers in his hair. There is a painted backdrop of a forest behind. This photograph was taken during the Anglo-Zulu War (1879), which ended the independence of the Zulu Kingdom and brought it under British control.
