(Andy Likins, 28 January 2023) One of my favorite family photos is this painted tintype of the family of my third great grandparents. The original paper photograph (second photo) was taken in 1880 in Norway and shows the parents with four of their five children. At that time, their eldest son, Hans (my great great grandfather), had already immigrated to the U.S., but they wanted to include him, so his sister holds his photo. The rest of the family followed Hans to the U.S. the next year. At some point, they had the painted tintype made and “photoshopped” Hans into the photo.
