| Zangaki Brothers N° 255 vue de la mosquée Sultan Hassan [Cairo, Zangaki photographic van] 1880 (ca, ?) Albumen print Private collection of Michele Florack LL/50375 The El Rifai [Al-Rifa'i] Mosque in Cairo, Egypt, built for the royal family was built in two phases, 1869-1880 with the architect Husayn Fahmi Pasha al-Mi'mar and then it was finished between 1906-1912 under the supervision of the Hungarian architect Max Herz. This photograph includes signs of construction in progress so it might be prior to the end of the first building phase which ended in 1880.
The scene shows the photographic wagon of the Zangaki Brothers in the foreground.
