De overvloed op het einde van het leven van Louis Ghémar.
Onderaan het fototoestel zien we dat L- GHEMAR zijn schaapjes op het droge heeft en met de beer in de rechter beneden hoek die hiernaast de broodjes smeert duidt aan dat hij niets te kort heeft. Boven zijn hoofd zien we een haas, een symbool van snelheid, hij heeft erg snel carrière gemaakt. De andere fotograaf op de achtergrond, linksboven, is nog in een donkere omgeving bezig! Het is feest bij Ghémar, bovenop zijn huis merken we het eten zoals de visjes en de melk van de koe. Op het feesten, zijn hobby, moet men ook muziek spelen zoals de doedelzakspeler die bezig is. Deze laatste refereert ook naar zijn vijfjarig verblijf in Schotland, ook de tekst in het Engels wijst op zijn verblijfsperiode in Engeland; het maakt zijn foto zaak meer internationaal. Ten tijde van het maken van het schilderij is het een zondvloed, hij moet met zijn uithangbord de instroom van ratten en half naakte vrouwen tegenhouden. De huilende wolf met paraplu boven zijn kop en met zijn brandende staart, maakt het grappige karikatuur schilderij over het leven van Louis Ghémar compleet.
PS. Het schilderij is niet klassiek gesigneerd of evenmin gedateerd en kan natuurlijk ook door een van de kunstenaarsvrienden van Louis Ghémar gemaakt zijn. Maar het vermoeden rijst dat het uithangbord tevens de kunstenaar zijn handtekening is. Er werd soms gesuggereerd dat de schilderij niet door Louis Ghémar gemaakt is maar door zijn Antwerpse kunstenaarsvriend: Karel Verlat., maar hier is geen verdere bevestiging gekomen.
Het kunstwerk werd in 2002 vakkundig gerestaureerd. Door de reiniging zijn de kleuren frisser en er werd nu een mat vernis opgezet. De schilderij laat zich nu meer uit alle richtingen bekijken. De gaatjes in het doek en de verdwenen bijbehorende kleuren werden vakkundig bijgewerkt volgens de methoden van het Koninklijk Instituut van het Kunstpatrimonium. Er werd ook een nieuwe doek achteraan het schilderij vastgehecht.
Het schilderij werd rond 1970 door professor en fotohistoricus Jan Coppens bij een Brusselse kunsthandel aangekocht, en in 1988 verder verkocht, aan zijn huidige eigenaar, de Ghémar verzamelaar van België. In 1988 was er nog geen kader rond het schilderij aanwezig.

PS. The painting is not classic signed or dated and can of course also be made by one of the friends of Louis Ghémar. But the suspicion is that the sign is also the artist's signature. It was sometimes suggested that the painting was not made by Louis Ghémar but by his antwerp kunstenaarsvriend: Charles Verlat., but no further confirmation has come here.
The artwork was expertly restored in 2002 Because of the cleaning, the colors are fresher and a mat varnish was set up now. The painting is now showing more from all directions. The holes in the canvas and the disappeared colours were expertly updated according to the methods of the Royal Institute of the Arts. A new cloth was also attached to the painting.
The painting was purchased by professor and fotohistoricus Jan Coppens at a Brussels art store around 1970, and sold further in 1988 to his current owner, the Ghémar collector of Belgium. In 1988, there was no framework around the painting.
