Who took this photograph is not clear. It was probably taken between 1890 and 1900 and was published in Marius Maure Biskra et ses environs (1900, p.38) with the title "Biskra - Femmes Arabes dans l'Intérieur de l'Oasis" and as a postcard with the title "Biskra - femmes dans l'Oasis" prior to 1904. Although it is attributed to Marius Maure (1871-1941) it could be based on an earlier work by his father Auguste Maure.

Later prints of this work can be mistakenly attributed to Alexandre Bougault, who with his wife Therese Landron, bought Biskra Marius Maure studio around 1935.
