The Viceroy referred to in the title is the Viceroy of Egypt, also known as Muhammad Sa'id Pasha, who held the officially unrecognised position from 1854 to 1863, when the Ottoman Empire finally recognised the independence of the Egyptian Viceroy. The photograph is unsigned, and was not part of the Day & Son series published for the public.
