The two men are seated on chairs, facing towards the camera. They are posed either side of a table. The table is decorated with a cloth featuring a design of a heron and clouds. There is a screen on the right side of the photograph. The photograph was taken in Tientsin, now Tianjin, in China, on the date of the signing of the Treaty of Tientsin.
