A young man, possibly a college student, stands with one hand resting on an ornately carved pedestal on which is placed a single plant. A compelling contrast of scale and style is set up between the simplicity of the plant and the complexity of the pedestal. What is more, there is also a note of the Western world in his posture, and a rather modern tone set by his leather shoes and dark scarf.
