Landscape view of Naples, from the west window of the third floor of No. 233 Riviera di Chiaia. A horse-drawn vehicle is in the centre of the road in the foreground, with a driver; there may be more ghostly images of carriages. To the left the dark area is wooded (?) with steps shown on the left and pillars indicating railings. The wooded hill beyond rises to a skyline with trees in silhouette (cypresses?). From the written notes: to the right, Lady Strachan's house and next the British Embassy. The house projecting with a kind of tower is that of the Princes of Syracuse. The Hill is the ridge of Posilipo; the straight street is Riviera di Chiaja; the turn to the left is the Mergellina.
