The portrait of Miss Emily Whitmore has had a decorative frame painted around it. A black border with gold crosses immediately surrounds the image and beyond that a gold frame is decorated with blue forget-me-knots. The flowers have a butterfly; dragonfly and several ladybirds resting on their leaves. The woman has her hair worn up in a pleated bun. She is facing sideways and wearing a dark velvet dress.
