This view shows mourners marking the place where President Francisco I. Madero (1873-1913) and Vice President Pino Suarez (1869-1913) were assassinated outside the penitentiary after former General under Madero, Victoriano Huerta (1854-1916) conspired with others to overthrow Madero in a coup d'etat. The photograph is one of forty-three photographic prints from an album of the Mexican Revolution by Manuel Ramos (1874-1945) illustrating damage in Mexico City during the uprising in February, 1913, also called La Decena Tragica.
