Extract from note in RDF by Sandra Klopper (then History of Art Dept, University of Cape Town) 7 Sept 1995 - "Spring...was an inn keeper in Durban who seems to have died a destitute alcoholic in 1878. His will, which is not at all helpful for anyone interested in the album, is in the Natal Archive Depot in Pietermaritzburg" [CM 21/07/2006]
