One of the most outstanding Swiss photographers of the 20th century, Albert Steiner has been compared to Ansel Adams and Albert Renger-Patzsch. His impressive scenic photographs have fundamentally shaped the perception of Switzerland as an alpine country of timeless beauty. In the 1920s, however, he adopted a more clear and objective way of photographing and created the first modern Swiss photobook Schnee Winter Sonne (1930) which has been compared to Renger-Patzsch's Die Welt ist Schön (1928).
