Photograph of the Portal of Forgiveness or La Puerta del Perdon in Toledo Cathedral, Spain. The main archway contains six archivolts which lead to the Tympanum featuring a relief of the Virgin. The main entrance is flanked by two smaller portals; the Portal of the Last Judgement on the right and the Portal of Hell on the left. The façade is decorated with figures of saints who appear in various recesses. A low stone wall, topped with iron railings stands immediately outside the cathedral, against which nine people stand or are seated.

La Puerta del Perdon was begun in 1418, some two hundred years following the beginning of building works under the King of Castile, Ferdinand III. The cathedral is one of three in Spain built in the Gothic Baroque style and contains important artworks including paintings by El Greco.

Acquired by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert
