[Curatorial description - Royal Photographic Society]

Frith made three photographic trips to the Middle East at the end of the 1850s with three different cameras, a mammoth plate (20 x 16 inch), a full plate (10 x 8 inch) and a stereo camera. Battling against temperatures of 130 degrees Fahrenheit, dust, flies, robbers and wild dogs, he bought back stunning archaeological and architectural studies of a decayed culture.
