Crystal Place at Sydenham , a stereoscopic photograph by T R Williams, showing the 'Ceremony of Inauguration' by Queen Victoria 10 June 1854:, photographer's blind stamp lower left, printed annotation to reverse and numbered No 41, 8.2cm x 17.4cm * Notes- The Royal Collection Trust has a similar image attributed to Philip Henry Delamotte (1821-1889) 9RCIN 2906088. * Notes - See also 'A Village lost and Found' Brian May and Elena Vidal, page 178 and 179; "The second TRW series published by the LSC was the CRYSTAL PALACE set. These images........depicting the new Crystal Palace in Sydenham in Kent, where it had been re-created and much expanded, following the dismantling of the original building in Hyde Park in 1851. TRW successfully carried out this project, and among the photographs he took was an image taken at the Ceremony of Inauguration on 10 June 1854. This is one of the first 'news' events in history ever to have been recorded by photography. The quality of Williams's original daguerreotypes from this event (see also Lot 62) are such that, although they contain images of hundreds of people, the individual facial features of Queen Victoria and her party are clearly discernible."
