Amazon - UK
This book explores the life and work of two of Scotland's most important early photographers. It is being privately published in a strictly limited hardback edition of only 500 copies by John Hannavy Publishing in the UK.
Interest in the early Waxed-Paper photography of Thomas Keith and John Forbes White has increased considerably over the years and this new monograph involves a major reappraisal of the work of these two eminent amateurs and includes many images rarely if ever seen in print before. Thomas Keith's waxed-paper photographs were all taken in Scotland, while his future brother-in-law John Forbes White – also working with waxed-paper – ventured further afield to also include locations in Wales and England
Examples of the superb work of both men will be drawn from collections in Europe, Canada and America. The book is illustrated throughout in colour to capture the unique character of mid 19th century salted paper prints.
The 265mm x 210mm landscape format book, contains nearly two hundred images – by Keith and White and their immediate circle, as well as examples of the work of the earliest pioneers of Scottish photography.
It is priced at only £20 plus postage and sturdy packaging. That will add around £4 mailed to addresses in the UK, £9 to Europe, and £14 to the rest of the world.
Publication has been supported by a generous grant from the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
This book will be available by direct mail only from the author/publisher, and will not be available either through bookshops or on-line retailers. Publication is scheduled for 1 April 2015
