Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre
Case with the portrait of Daguerre by the Meade Brothers
n.d.

Daguerreotype case
Archives of Modern Conflict OR National Gallery of Canada

LL/35493

On this case there is no indication that the original photograph was taken by the Meade & Brother. Additional notes from Matt Isenburg (2009):

Originally made exclusively for the Meade Brothers to advertise Charles' feat of photographing the elusive Mr. Daguerre, it probably was so well received that it was quickly produced as a case for all daguerreotypists by simply eliminating the artist's name as seen in the example on the right.

I suspect there was a royalty paid to the Brothers Meade for the use of their image, but have no written proof of this.

This illustration was included in the lecture "The many faces of Daguerre" presented by Matt Isenburg at the Daguerreian Society Symposium (2009).
