(Barry Wick, 5 February 2022) The wreck occurred on May 23, 1873 when a mistake in switching caused the 34-ton steam locomotive to smash through barriers and fall down an embankment to Merrimac Street below. Both the engineer and fireman jumped clear before the impact. It looks like it was quite a spectacle for the local residents.
