Photograph of Omar Pacha (1806-1871) mounted on a horse facing left with Colonel Simmons (1821-1903) standing to the left by the horse's head. Both are wearing military uniform and carry swords. Behind them there is a tree and a building with a tiled roof. Omar Pacha was originally an Austrian subject who converted to Islam and commanded the Turkish forces during the Crimean War. Colonel Simmons was a British soldier and railway expert who acted as the British representative to the Ottoman army during the Crimean War.
