Mannesmannröhrenwerke A. G., Komotau. 1888-1925
Oblong folio. Unpaginated. Original full brown leather over wood, with bevelled edges and gold-stamped lettering on front board. Marbled endpapers. Rare and fascinating work being a photographic history of the famous Mannesmann industrial group, founded by the brothers Reinhard and Max Mannesmann in the little town of Komotau (Bohemia) in 1888. Its production of seamless steel pipes were remarkable in its modernity and innovation. The final technical breakthrough occurred in 1890 with the invention of the so-called back-step procedure by Max Mannesmann, with which the products produced by cross-rolling seamless, thick-walled hollow bodies were formed into a fine mass produced industrial pipe. The combination of both back step procedure and cross-rolling process became known worldwide as the Mannesmann process. This work is profusely illustrated with numerous b/w photographic reproductions of the factory and its various people at work pasted on heavy stock boards. Includes 2 loose patentschrift laid in, dated 1889 and 1891 and containing folded industrial graphics.
