Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (born October 13, 1989), also known by the initialism AOC, is an American politician, activist, and community organizer. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th congressional district since January 3, 2019. The district, which was once represented by 1984 Democratic vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferarro, includes portions of north Queens and the north Bronx in New York City.
On June 26, 2018, Ocasio-Cortez won the Democratic Party's primary election for the 14th District, defeating the incumbent Congressman, Democratic Caucus Chair Joe Crowley, in the biggest upset victory in the 2018 midterm election primaries. Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
