As a pubic service I am posting a tintype from our collection of twin boys that is as an illustration of the purpose and importance of a head brace/rest. The base of a head brace can be seen behind the feet of the little fellow on the right. He has stayed still so that his face and the two rows of brass buttons on his coat are sharp. The little brother on the left has no head brace and his face is a blur and his buttons show streaks of movement. The photographer would have done well to invest in more than one head brace. ... and no they would not stand up a live child with his dead twin. You may think the Victorians were weird but they were not that weird!
