It shows Mary Wigman in her perfomance of "Der Weg" and is by one of Germany's most prolific photographers Albert Renger-Patzsch. Wigman was photographed by many renowned artists including Hugo Erfurth, Charlotte Rudolph and Siegfried Enkelmann. Renger-Patzsch's images of the dancer often show a more statuesque and posed figure with a strong momentary expression.
