Unidentified photographer
A young woman wearing dark glasses
n.d.

Daguerreotype
Private collection of Jack and Beverly Wilgus

LL/116844

(Beverly Wilgus, 31 December 2021) I have always assumed that the young woman in this daguerreotype is either blind or has an eye condition. It does not seem that dark glasses would have been a fashion statement in the middle of the 19th century. You can also see her eyes through the lenses which suggests that the glasses were blue since the daguerreotype was only sensitive to blue light. Her left eye (since the daguerreotype is a mirror image) appears to have a drooping lid.
