| Unidentified photographer The Battle of Jutland 1916, 31 May Gelatin silver print Imperial War Museum North Ref: SP 1708 LL/38239 A huge cloud of smoke rises when HMS Queen Mary blows up thirty eight minutes into the battle of Jutland after being struck by a salvo from the German battlecruiser Derfflinger. 1,266 men lost their lives.
