This image is of the landing of Christopher Columbus in the West Indies in October 1492, painted by John Vanderlyn in 1846 and placed in the U.S. Capitol rotunda in 1847.
The use of this backmark in 1892 commemorated the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Colombus in North America.
