Dear Sir,
We would respectfully beg leave to call your attention to one new style of Photographic or Daguerreian Likenesses on paper, which we are just about introducing to the public of New York.

Respecting the merits of these portraits, we have only to say that we are able to furnish them, from the smallest miniature size, to the size of life - at a cost of about one third of the prices normally paid for oil paintings. The smaller sizes have all the beauty and finish of the finest miniature on ivory - and the larger far surpass in depth of tone and brilliancy the most superior of oil paintings - To these may be added their durability and accuracy of likeness - the latter, so rarely attained in the painted portraits of the day.

As we were the first to introduce the large size pictures in this style in Paris (at the Establishment No 21 Boulevard des Cappucines) from whence we have just received several first class Artists for the colouring process - and as this is an entirely new feature in the art which is well worthy of inspection, we take this method of inviting you to call & exam[ine] the specimens at our Gallery 349 Broadway - Cor Leonard Rd.

& remain
Respectfully, yours
J. Gurney &
C.D. Fredricks

P.S. Life size portraits taken in
this style from Daguerreotypes
or paintings.
New York 1854.
