8vo, original pebbled deep burgundy morocco, with brass clasps at fore-edge and built-in stereo viewer inside the front cover. 148, [1] pp., additional 27 pp. with single red rule border, 103 mounted albumen print stereoviews.

A rare and quite remarkable stereoscopic view book, illustrated with 103 mounted views, constituting an unusually extensive photo-survey of the city of Syracuse, New York in the late 1870s.

This is effectively a booster book, both the text and illustrations celebrating the advantages and beauties of the city and its vicinity. It includes street scenes, views of monuments in Oakwood cemetery, a wide variety of public and commercial buildings, elevated views of the city, private residences, parks, railroad depots and yards, the driving park, the salt works, the chlorine springs, the steel mill, etc. Due to the expense involved, relatively few books illustrated with original stereoviews were published. The present work is among the most extensive—a feast of original photographs.
