Unidentified photographer
Portrait of a couple with three daguerreotype cases
1849, 24 September (scratched on the back)

Daguerreotype
Private collection of Nigel Maister

LL/80322

This portrait is intriguing for multiple reasons. The plain background behind them shows signs of having been folded and that may be indicative of an itinerant photographer. In each of their right hands the edges of daguerreotype cases can be seen and on the table is another open, but empty, case possibly for this photograph to be added to. Perhaps they each had photographs of each other taken and then a final image of them together.
