Photograph of a valley with a river running vertically through the frame. On the left is a dirt road that follows the side of a hill that has been cleared of trees. Two men stand on the road on the left of the photograph, both facing the viewer. Small, wooden buildings stand at intervals in the landscape, including one on the road. A series of hills populate the background. Initially named 'Humbug Creek' due to the small amounts of gold that was first mined there, Williams Creek soon became famous during the Cariboo Gold Rush due to the large amounts of gold that were to be found deeper into the earth. Some $30 million worth of gold was mined there during the second half of the 19th century.
