Private collection of Patrick Ballanger

LL/111882

(Patrick Ballanger, 1 July 2021) ... a post-mortem portrait of Emperor Friedrich III, laid out in the Neues Palais in Potsdam, on 16 June 1888. The Emperor lies with the head on a pillow, the hands are folded on the body. He wears a ribbon around the neck with the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross. On his chest lies a withered laurel wreath, which was deposited there with his sword by his widow Victoria. Vicky had given him the wreath in 1871 when he returned from the Franco-Prussian war.
