Vertical, black and white photograph. One interior view of a young man standing in a photo studio, a hat laid out on a side table draped in tablecloth on the left. The photograph is encased in a bronze-colored metal preserver frame and mat decorated and engraved with floral, leaf, diamond, and circular designs. The back of the photograph depicts the following description in cursive: "John Mauly. Thief. Pickpocket. 17 yrs old. 5 feeh 4 3/4. Black hair and Eyes. Dark complexion. Born in St. Louis. Irish [illegible - descent?]. Brother of Julia Mauly. Mar 13 1867. [Illegible - Grey?] Smith."
