Photograph of Maria Feodorovna, Empress of Russia. She is standing facing the camera holding a round fan in her right hand. She is wearing the costume of a seventeenth century Empress, heavily embellished with jewels. There is a table covered with an embroidered cloth to the right and a painted backdrop behind. The photograph has been painted over, adding a wide range of colours. Maria Feodorovna, born Princess Dagmar of Denmark, was the consort of Alexander III, Emperor of Russia. She wore this costume to a ball held by Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich in 1883.
