Antoine Claudet
Studio portrait of a seated man [Possible, but uncertain, to be Nicolaas Henneman]
1843 (ca)

Daguerreotype, 1/6 plate, in case
Private collection of Jason David Wright

LL/113016

(Jason David Wright, 23 August 2021) In His Adelaide Side Opening Case (used from circa 1844) Showing The Famous Darwin Studio Chair and the Fox Talbot Studio Backdrop – Claudet and Talbot had been discussing an agreement to license the Calotype process since 1842. It took until July 1844 for that agreement to be ratified. As part of it, Talbot asked Henneman, Murray and Malone to aid Claudet’s process development at the Adelaide gallery. The date of that collaboration puts Henneman at Adelaide the same time as this dauerreotype was taken. Archivally resealed. Some light wisps throughout the image.
