(Ralph Reiley, 16 April 2021) This is from a group of private views taken by a German officer on the Eastern front, he may be one of the men in the photo. The photo is taken in Wishnew, in Russian in 1915 or early 1916. There are 35 views in the group, this one has #89 written on the back, so there may have been as many as 100 views at one time. The title on the back states that this is the staff of the 3rd Battalion in the blockhouse. Note the bottle of wine and the Carl Zeis stereoscope on the table. The views are generally very sharp and clear, and mounted on light grey cardboard with a red border about the edge and in the middle. A few of the photos in the group show other officers. A very few show enlisted men. None show Russian civilians. Most of the views show no people at all, which strikes me as odd for a war zone, even in a quiet sector.
