(Beverly Wilgus, 11 September 2020) This may be my favorite dark tent. It is a collodion negative that has been mounted as a lantern slide. It has been labeled by the photographer "Wet col neg Wet col positive". When viewed against black it is clearly a negative. It does not appear as a positive when backed with black since it is a denser negative than an ambrotype or tintype. This shows it scanned with backlight and reversed then recombined with the mat. We found a John C. Browne who was an editor of the Philadelphia Photographer. In the 1877 6th edition of "The Sciopticon Manual" Browne gives detailed instructions for making lantern slides from collodion negatives. We have not found H. W. Hazard (except for a champion bull with that name ?? ) and the young ladies are not named.
