Written in pencil on the lid in Hawes' hand "selections for copy" Written in Holman's hand "Known Men" which has been crossed out and "Groups" I believe Holman shuffled the available plates for sale in the 1930s around in boxes. He sent a box of bare plate to collector Zelda MaKay to pick and choose then return. This explains a lot of the scratches on S&H images.
