Photograph of the Maharaja of Kasmir. He is seated with his left foot resting on the stool in front of him and his head turned slightly to the left. He is wearing long, ornately embellished robes, a ceremonial chain and a turban with a feather. He is holding a curved sword in his right hand. There is a rug on the floor.
 
This is one of a series of photographs from a published volume documenting the tour the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, made of India in 1875-76. Ranbir Singh had just become the Maharaja of Kashmir at the time of the Indian Mutiny.
