Scott is sitting in his corner of the hut at Cape Evans, surrounded by his personal belongings. He is writing his diary, something that he did throughout the expedition, including during the final trek to and from the South Pole. Scott had brought with him several photographs, visible to his left, of his wife Kathleen. Some include their young son Peter (1909-89), who was to become widely known as a wildlife artist and conservationist.
