Woodbury & Page
Album cover for Woodbury & Page, Souvenir de Java
Photo album in red leather binding with the title in gold print on the front. Centrally on the backside a geometric decoration in blind print. The bracts are made of embossed paper. The front flyleaf has a storage compartment for loose papers. The album contains 28 sheets with a total of 26 images. In the album two family photos were found that were later added and possibly have a connection with the former owner of the album. It is mainly ascribed to Woodbury & Page recordings of sights on Java: landscapes, rivers, waterfalls, roads, fields and houses. One shot jumps out: the execution of the so-called Tamboenmoordenaars in Bekasi on August 24, 1870. Eight men were hanged in public after a revolt against Dutch colonial authorities.
