The Greek photographer Elli Souyoultzoglou, who worked under the name of Nelly, learned her trade in Dresden under Hugo Erfurth and Franz Fiedler. She returned to Athens in 1924 and in 1925 she began taking photos of Greek refugees from Asia Minor. She exhibited bromoil prints of this series in her studio in 1926 under the title "The Sorrows of the Refugees". The image offered here is probably her most famous photograph showing the Hungarian dancer Nikolska in a dynamic moment of movement atop the Parthenon. – A few minimal indentation/pressure marks, otherwise in near excellent condition.
