Ürge departed for Chefubang, China in 1880, where he founded a hospital and an orphanage. With his imposing character and exotic clothes he soon became a celebrity when visited his native country to raise funds. This photograph by Vilmos Wietz (1839–1916) of Nagyszombat (today Trnava, Slovakia) was reproduced in line engraving in Hungary's most popular magazine of the time.
