"L. A. Kraft, Art Photographer, No. 150 State Street. —Amongst the most popular photograph galleries in Chicago is that located at No. 150 State Street owned and operated by Mr. L. A. Kraft who has had a long practical experience in this useful and fascinating art. Mr. Kraft established himself in this business on his own account in May, 1879. For many years previous to that time he had studied every detail of the interesting art under able masters and acted as assistant for one of the oldest and best photographic houses in the city. His establishment occupies the third and fourth stories of the building, the top story being devoted to taking the negatives and printing the positives and the lower floor to receiving customers and for the display of the beautiful specimens of Mr. Kraft's excellent work. Mr. Kraft takes pictures by any of the many modern processes and not only are his instruments amongst the most perfect in the city, but such is his knowledge of posturing, grouping, light and shade, the effect of certain colors upon the result, the action of chemicals, etc., that he is enabled to turn out masterpieces of this most wonderful practical and useful science. The patronage has become so large and constant that a number of skilled and experienced assistants are required in the many departments into which the business is divided. Mr. Kraft is a native of Concord, Ohio, and has made his home in Chicago since 1872. He is highly regarded by all who know him and in art circles his genius is fully appreciated."
