In 1977 Pierre Gassmann reprinted some of Atget's negatives for an exhibition with astonishing results. Many of Atget's negatives had many more details and contrasts than were apparent in Atget's own prints. Gassmann stressed that these prints made visible what Atget himself had seen when taking his photographs which, however, could not be fully developed with the techniques Atget used when he printed.
