Photograph of an elevated view across rooftops of Toledo in Southern Spain. In the background, to the left of the centre stands the City's Cathedral. On the right stands the Alcázar.

During the 10th Century, Toledo was inhabited by Christians, Jews and Muslims during a period in the cities history known as the 'La Convivencia'. However, in 1085, King Alfonso VI captured Toledo thus establishing Christian control over the Moorish city. Toledo became the capital of Castille until the Spanish court moved to Madrid thus initiating the city's decline.

Acquired by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert
