Dr. Konrad Biesalski (1868-1930) was an important German orthopedic physician who believed in holistic treatment methods. Biesalski is considered one of the early founders of modern care for people with handicaps- "not an individual foot is to be treated, but whole humans!" (source: www.biologie.de) As an amateur photographer, Biesalski teamed up with a Dr. Kruger and worked at perfecting photographs like this two-color photograph that used a single light source such as a blacksmith's shop open hearth to create dramatically-lit low-key photographs.
