Mario Carrieri, a photojournalist and cinematographer, abandoned all projects between 1957 and 1959 to photograph Milan exclusively. Heavily influenced by William Klein, Carrieri''s photographs of Italy''s largest city are dark and dynamic. Carrieri was, at the time, associated with the Italian neo-realist photographers and went on to become an important photographer of sculpture.
